Canada Is Probing 5 Banks

Wall Street Journal – Feb 16, 2012 7:21am

By PAUL VIEIRA OTTAWA—Canada’s top antitrust watchdog is probing the Canadian affiliates of five foreign banks, in addition to a UK brokerage, part of a global investigation into how banks set key interest rates.

Through a series of orders, which are similar to subpoenas, granted by an Ontario provincial court, Canada’s Competition Bureau has demanded information and documents from the firms, including lists of people at the companies involved in interest-rate derivatives trading and emails and instant-message chats between personnel.
